Daniel "Danny" Thomas Vinall passed away peacefully at his home on September 20, 2023, with his loving wife of 33 or 34 years (who knows!), Joanne Burns Vinall, by his side.
Danny had many great days in his life but August 8, 2010 was the ultimate best, only slightly eclipsed by the birth of his two daughters. For on that immortal day, after 30 years of paying greens fees, begging someone to teach him how to play golf, and buying funny clothes, he did it, he got his hole in one. If you knew Danny, you would know where to find him on any given
Saturday or Sunday morning, joining a blitz or competing in a tournament at one of several golf courses in his hometown of Savannah, GA.
Danny was born and raised in the hostess city of the south, the perfect but "forgotten"; middle child of Jack and Betty Vinall. He grew up on Isle of Hope, taking advantage of the long summer days swimming in the river or running the streets with his friends. However, these joyful activities were only completed after he was brow beaten into enduring a grown man's worth of chores, that only he and not his older brother or younger sister, mind you, had to endure. Speaking of which, if he wasn’t scrubbing floors or washing the walls trying to earn his dinner, his older brother was beating on him and his little sister was tattling on him, simultaneously! To hear him tell it, he was wronged at every turn, even if there was that wonderful twinkle in his eye as he told his tall tales.
These shared experiences became the stories the siblings would tell when they got together as adults. A comedic trio, they spun hilarious tales with a bit of truth woven in. One playing off the other seamlessly, as only a tight knit sibling squad could do. To be a witness to these improvised, private shows was pure joy with a few eye rolls and groans tossed in. His mother
would vehemently deny any wrong-doing and his father would just sit back and smile. After graduating high school Danny tried the college route. When that didn’t work out, he joined
the military, devoting 21 years of service to the Air National Guard. He took the skills he learned there and segued into telecommunications at Savannah Electric and Power Company. He
enjoyed a 500-year career there as the smartest employee Georgia Power ever had and finally retired in 2018.
Danny met his second wife, Joanne, at the electric company. She knocked his socks off and the rest is history. And while his first marriage gave him his two incredibly talented, beautiful, daring, and adventurous daughters his second marriage brought him the love of his life and the amazing, strong-willed, handsome, loving, mountain of a son he always wanted. He took his
role of father and husband very seriously and couldn't have done a better job.
As an incredibly handy man, he was always called upon to help his kids with home improvement projects. And he gave the best financial advice. He was our Superman: An exceptional husband and father, a wonderfully committed grandfather, and the patriarch of our family.
He is survived by his wife of 30 some years, Joanne Vinall, daughters Wendy Cohen (Jon), Lynn Vinall (Rick Shelly), son Brannon Webb (Harley), grandchildren Max Cohen, Sol Cohen,
Reese Cohen, Mason Webb, Maddox Webb, and the soon to make an appearance in this world Maverick Webb, his older brother Jack Henry Vinall Jr. (Helen), his little sister Bonnie Nantkes,
aunt Mildred Robbins, sister-in-law Jackie Berry (John), brother-in-law Al Burns (Sandra) and a slew of nieces and nephews, all of whom adored him.
P.S. Papa Danny, Mason says you ugly. A battle he has won for now!
