Cynthia "Cyndi" A. Thomas Milbourne, 60, was born in Savannah, Georgia on August 9, 1956 to Willie Thomas, Sr. and Tillie Mae Bing Thomas. She was educated in the Chatham County Public Schools, graduating from Sol C. Johnson High School in 1974. She later earned an Associate's Degree from Draughon's Junior College. She married Michael Redwood and James Milbourne with whom she adopted a daughter, Felicia. Both marriages ended in divorce but she remained very close friends with both. As a military spouse, she traveled extensively in Europe, living in Germany for many years.
Cynthia grew up as a member of First Bryan Baptist Church and accepted Christ at an early age. She was active in the choir. She later joined Coastal Cathedral where she also sang in the choir, served as teacher for the Joy Bells youth group and enjoyed dancing on the praise and worship team. Her final church home was The Seed Church where she served as activity director for the singles group and worked on the decorating & hospitality committee. In her spare time, Cynthia enjoyed decorating and event planning for family and friends. She also served as a volunteer coordinator for Weddings for Warriors.
Cynthia worked in civil service for many years with the U.S. Government before moving on to a career in finance and payroll. She worked for various agencies including Chatham Area Transit and the Chatham County Board of Education until vision problems forced her to retire. Despite being legally blind, she continued being active, working as an advocate and mentor at The Savannah Association for the Blind.
She went home to be with The Lord on January 23, 2017 where her parents and niece, Tia, were waiting.
She leaves behind many family members to cherish her memory including her sister Margaret Thomas Smith; brother, Willie (Tanom) Tomas; Goddaughter/niece Tarcia Smith Bush; nieces Tanya Smith, Ashley Bush, Aundria (Mark) Branch, and Michelle (David) Reedy; nephews Terlazzo (Sharon) Smith, Jr.,Tristan Shonfelt, Justin Bush, Joshua Smith, Carlos Tomas, Joeli Tomas, Shaun Scott, Albert Carroll, Jr., and Matthew Langreo-Smith. Godsons/nephews; Maurice Smith and Matthew Smith; grandchildren Selassie Ogden and Elijah Ogden; Godson Kristopher Kemp. Godmother Anna N. Williams; lifelong friends Elinda Stevens Gorman, Rodney Henry, Jerome Williams, Winde Sullivan, Deborah Pullen, Pamela Bashlor, and Bernard Smith; and a host of other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 29, at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah.
A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January, 30 at The Seed Church,1950 Chatham Parkway, Savannah.
