Connie Sue Brinson Garnto – Pooler, GA
1938 - 2024
The family of Connie S. Brinson Garnto is blessed to have been with her on February 26th , 2024, when God took her to her heavenly home.
She was affectionately known as Mema and Mema G by the children who she loved and cared for throughout her adult life. She was the daughter of the late David Brinson and Nellie Adele Cox Brinson and celebrated her 86th birthday on February 23 rd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar F. Garnto and her son Lawrence S. Garnto. She also had to say goodbye to her brothers Hansel, Perry, and Teddy Brinson.
She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Garnto (Jimmy Lewis) and her son David Garnto (Karen Dixon), grandchildren Nicole Garnto Delgado (Ricky) and Tristen Garnto, great grandchildren Connor Caylor and Isabelle Berry. She is also survived by her sister, Vonnie Garnto and her sister-n-laws Patsy, Faye, and Gina Brinson, and several nieces and nephews to cherish her loving memory.
She married Oscar Garnto in April of 1953 and they moved to Garden City and later to Pooler GA. While her children were in elementary school, she was a stay at home / PTA Mom, and she even worked as a school crossing guard. She also worked at Roger Wood Foods and the Town of Pooler, as well as an escort with oversized loaded trucks and a car transporter for Snappy Rental car agency. The job she loved most was taking care of children in her home and at the Pooler First Baptist Church nursey where she was a member for as long as she lived in Pooler. She worked as an assistant manager for many years at the Western Sizzlin Steakhouse and at the Roebling Road Racetrack in the concession stand and in the guard station.
During her early adult life, she loved working in the garden and canning vegetables. She loved to play the card game Canasta with friends. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. Later in life, she enjoyed going on Genealogy trips with her daughter, going to the mountains and visiting with her son, David, and she loved the time she spent with her son Lawrence at their river house. Family meant a great deal to her! She also loved going to church, her Sunday school class and attending church functions with her church family. When she became unable to ambulate and travel, she spent her days in her recliner working on word search puzzles and watching tv. She was able to stay in the comfort of her home, thanks to her granddaughter, Nicole, for being her primary caregiver and loving her as much as she did. They always shared a special bond.
The family would like to thank the staff at Compassus Hospice for their kindness and care, with special thanks to Carolyn, her aid and Missy her nurse.
