Clifford (Windy) Winfield Helmey Jr.
Clifford W. Helmey passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2016 while under hospice care.
Clifford was born in Effingham County in November 14, 1927, and has resided in Savannah since 1950. He was the son of the late Clifford Helmey, Sr. and Roxie Helmey. Mr. Helmey graduated from Marlow High School, and later from Draughon Business College. He served in the U.S. Army, and Ga. National Guard as Sergeant Major for 17 years. Employed by Central of Georgia Railroad and Strachan Shipping, retiring as general traffic manager.
Clifford was a past president of the Savannah Transportation Club, former member of Loyalty Order of Elk Lodge #183, former member of the Scottish Rite, and past president of the Greeter Unit of Alee Shrine Solomon's Lodge #1, F & A.M.
Member of Wilmington Island Methodist Church having served as former president of the
Friendship Sunday school class.
In addition to being active in the community, Clifford enjoyed traveling, gardening and Ballroom Dancing with his beloved wife, the late Mary B. Helmey, to whom he was happily married for 64 years.
Survivors include his son, Michael W. Helmey; daughter-in-law, Cyndy A, Helmey; granddaughter Lauren M. Polk; grandson Philip Michael Helmey; granddaughter-in-law, Kristian B. Helmey; great-grandson, Ethan M.M. Polk, and sister-in-law, Lytle Bevill; all of the Savannah area.
Visitation will be held from 11am to 12pm noon on Wednesday at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel.

Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
