Dukes, Clemon L., 87, of Savannah. Died August 10, 2009 at the Marsh View Assisted Living Facility surrounded by his family.
Mr. Dukes was born in Dorchester County SC to the late G. Canaday and Eva Singletary Dukes. In Charleston where he worked in the navy ship yards, he met and married his wife of 61 years; Eleanor Grace Lawrence who died in 2003. He and Grace moved to Savannah in 1949 where Mr. Dukes worked for the Steel Products Co. before his machinist position at Hercules where he retired after 30 years of service. Clemon was a member of Morningside Baptist Church.
Mr. Dukes is survived by his children; Randall M. Dukes & his wife Alice of Atlanta and Eva D. Gant and her husband A.R. of Buen Vista, AR, 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Calvin Dukes of Ashville, NC and preceded in death by 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
His visitation will be Wednesday from 6 - 8PM at Bonaventure Funeral Home where funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday August 13, 2009. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, with Chaplin Steven Thorton officiating.
