Chester Lawrence DeVore of Savannah, Ga., known lovingly as “Big Larry,” passed away peacefully on January 12th,2022 at the age of 76.
Larry was born in Louisville, Kentucky May 17th, 1945, to the late Chester Lawrence DeVore and Naomi Exley.
He is survived by his children, Nora “Sissy” Patrick (Aaron Jackson) of Savannah, Ga.; Paul DeVore (Shawna) of Pembroke, Ga.; Marsha DeVore of Hartford City, In.; James Miller (Tammy) of Savannah, Ga.; Larry DeVore (Penny) and John DeVore (Kate), both of Louisville, Ky.; Lawrence Cornett of Garden City, Ga., along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will forever remember their “peepaw” fondly.
He is preceded in death by his son, Timothy “Tuck” Smith.
Larry was a loving and devoted father, known for his big heart by all he met. He moved to Savannah from Louisville in 1980. After opening several variety stores, he became a staple at Keller’s Flea Market from 1992 until today. He was an expert at wheeling and dealing, and did so with a passion, loving every minute of it. His customers became family in just a brief period. There was a time Big Larry was known as the best pool player in Savannah. The stories have become legendary, making people smile to this day. He will be missed deeply by his friends, family, and all that knew him.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. with visitation held one hour prior at 3:00pm Saturday, January 15th, 2022, at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, 2794 Highway 80 W. Garden City, Georgia.
