Charles F. Barnwell, Jr., 64, of Savannah, passed into Heaven through Jesus Christ on January 16, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center, after a short illness.
He was a native of Savannah and a longtime resident of Wilmington Island. He was a 1971 Graduate of Hershel V. Jenkins High School. He played on 4 championship Basketball teams and several Baseball Teams. He loved the Sports of Weight Lifting and Boxing which he followed closely and participated in.
Charles was an avid Squirrel Hunter. He grew up and learned to play all sports and boxed in Hitch Park.
He attended Armstrong and Georgia Southern College, where he majored in Physical Education and English Literature.
He worked for Belk of Savannah for several years, before going to work for Savanah Electric and Power Company for over 26 years. He retired from the Trouble Department, but also worked many years at the Port Wentworth Power Plant.
During his career at Savannah Electric, he was the President and Vice President of the AFL - CIO Union.
He loved Jesus and was a longtime member of Ardsley Park Baptist Church.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Charles F. Barnwell, Sr. and his birth mother, Betty Strickland Barnwell.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Howe Barnwell; mother, Nancy Cordray Barnwell; brother, Ashley Barnwell (Dana); cousin, Larry Bullis (Mary); several aunts and cousins.
Visitation: 5 - 8 p.m. Friday, at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah.
Funeral Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, in the chapel of Baker McCullough Funeral Home, with Rev. Billy Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Bonaventure Cemetery with Rev. Buddy Clay officiating.
Remembrances: Ardsley Park Baptist Church, 3802 Bull St, Savannah, GA 31405.
