Charles Hasting Crapse

May 9, 1935 — September 25, 2021

Charles Hasting Crapse, age 86, from Savannah, GA went to be with his heavenly Father on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Candler Hospital.

Charles was born on May 9, 1935, in Estill, SC to Clarence L. (Sr.) and Ella Fitts Crapse. On July 5, 1958, Charles married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Milhouse, who he affectionately referred to as “Sweetie.” They enjoyed over 63 years together.

Charles was a long-time member of Life Church at Ardsley Park (formerly Ardsley Park Baptist Church), where he faithfully served for many years as a Sunday School teacher in the boy’s junior class, as a deacon, and other numerous service roles in the church. Throughout his life, he loved being able to fellowship with fellow believers and relished the opportunity to share the gospel of Christ with all.

Charles served his country in the United States Army and the National Guard. After his military service, he worked for the Local 188 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union and retired in 2000 after 45 years of service.
A quiet, gentle man, his life was a testament to his heavenly Father that he loved and served. He was a devoted and loving husband, a wonderful father, a phenomenal grandfather, and a strong Christian witness to all who knew him. His life embodied the characteristics of love found in 1 Corinthians 13. He was patient, kind, not envious, neither boastful nor proud, and selfless to a fault. His love for his family was always protective, always bestowed trust, always provided hope, and was always constant. To those who knew him best, his work ethic provided an example to live by. His words encouraged us, his selflessness and giving spirit blessed us, his Christ-like spirit mentored us, and his love, patience, kindness, and grace nurtured us.

Charles had 7 grandkids that he loved dearly. He cherished the time he spent with them, enjoying watching their favorite movies, reading them books, playing board games and hide-and-seek, having candlelight pizza dinners, and attending sporting events and band concerts.

He also enjoyed getting together with extended family at their family reunions, going on cruises and mystery trips, and was an avid Georgia Southern Eagles football fan.

Charles is survived by his loving wife Barbara; three sons: David (Tina), Andy (Judy), and Eddie (Paula); seven grandchildren: Sarah, Jonathan (Missy), Amanda, Stephanie (Jesus Marin), Kim Westfall (Derek), Graycie, and Evan; a brother Warren (Mirra); several cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters: Clarence L. Crapse, Jr., James Crapse (Virginia, Jean), Herman Crapse (Ann), Mary Fenton (Allen), Cynthia Loveless (Bill), and Minnie Virginia Kitchings (Bill).
