Catherine Woo Jue

October 13, 1926 — February 9, 2021

Catherine Woo Jue, age 94, of Savannah passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021.

Catherine was born on October 13, 1926, in Augusta, GA, the daughter of the late Lat Woo and Tom Chee Woo. At a young age, she moved to Savannah with her family and was a graduate of Commercial High School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, George Jue, and eight of her siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Jue Johns (Jack) of Rincon, Marsha Jue Markesteyn (Benny) of Savannah, and Susan Jue Hines (Bill) of Seven Valleys, PA; grandson, Barry Johns (LeAnn) of Macon, GA; granddaughters, Emily Markesteyn Kurilla of Savannah, Elizabeth Hines of Burlingame, CA, and Sarah Hines Wakim (Mike) of Springfield, NJ; great grandsons, Parker and Patrick Johns, both of Macon; great granddaughter, Margot Catherine Wakim of Springfield, NJ; sister, Lily Wong of Savannah; and a host of nieces and nephews.

An active person all her life, Catherine was an accomplished seamstress sewing clothes for her three daughters and grandchildren. Upholstery work and draperies followed; then quilts and knitted afghans for everyone in the family and special friends, all expertly finished. She spent many hours crocheting table doilies.

Cooking and baking were her passion. Chinese dinners and sour cream pound cakes! One of her last wishes was to cook the Chinese version of chicken and rice in the Azalealand kitchen! If only!!

Catherine loved to spend time in her yard where azaleas abounded as well as weeds, unfortunately, which she battled relentlessly.

But above all, she loved her family, the family in which she was born, her church family (Deany Ricks Class, Southside Baptist Church), her neighborhood family (Magnolia Park/Blueberry Hill), her 7-11 family (working side by side with George and his two brothers, she served Icees to customers who became family too) and the saints and angels of Azalealand Nursing Home who became her final family (thank you for the compassionate care and love you provided).

Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel is assisting the family with a private service planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Hospice Savannah.

Today, however, to honor this wonderful woman, reach out to family and friends through phone calls or cards as she would. Cook your specialty dish and share it with a neighbor. Sour cream pound cake recipes available upon request! Listen to John Denver, Nat King Cole and Johnny Mathis and sing along! Or simply go out in your yard and pull some weeds!!
