Catherine Carline Gunter Rice "Mema", 79, of Port Wentworth passed away Saturday, August 12, 2023.
A native of Elberton, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Carl Newton Gunter and Clara Olds Gunter.
Carline was a 1962 Honors Graduate of Robert W. Groves High School. She was married to Charlie Matthew Rice, Jr. on December 24, 1961, at the First Baptist Church in Port Wentworth. She was a Tax Preparer for over 40 years and a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Charles, and a grandson, Joshua Mark Rice.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Charlie M. Rice, Jr. and her sons: Charlie N. Rice (Aviva) and Christopher M. Rice (Michelle).Mema’s grandchildren from Charlie’s family include Charlie R. Rice (Mary), Beth Hatter (Michael), Teresa Caldwell (Jack), and Charles Feagain and great-grandchildren, Andrew A. Rice, Isabella Caldwell, Grady Caldwell, and Samuel Hatter. Mema’s grandchildren from Christopher’s family include Megan Rice, Amanda Rice, Abigail Rice, Ella Rice, and Ava Rice and great-grandchild, John Owen Haverland.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at the Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel from 12:00 noon - 1:00 P.M. with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 P.M. in the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey East Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pall bearers will be Charlie R. Rice, Andrew Rice, Jack Caldwell, John Haverland, Michael Garcia and Craig Hendrix.
