Carolyn Joyce Rogers Fischer, age 89, of Savannah, died Monday, February 24, 2025, at Memorial Health University Medical Center after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was born on May 7, 1935 in Savannah to Mr. Ignatius Waizmann Rogers Sr. and Mrs. Inez Womble Rogers and lived here all of her life. She graduated from St. Vincent's Academy in 1953, where she was a cheerleader. In her earlier years, she worked with her mother in her beauty shop, Inez's Beauty Shop and later retired from the City of Savannah. She was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Savannah and was a member of The Navy League of the United States. In her spare time Joyce loved, going to luncheons with her friends, going on cruises and traveling with her significant other. She was an avid fisherman, horse back rider, was the first mate on the Flying Lady, a wooden boat owned C&S Bank, a 72 Trumpsy, and loved animals. She especially loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandchildren. She was a loving and caring mother, godmother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Francis Joseph Fischer Sr.; parents; one brother, Ignatius Waizmann Rogers Jr.; and one sister, Ruth Rogers Martin.
Her family includes the love of her life, Thomas Gnann of Savannah; three sons, Francis "Frank" Joseph Fischer and wife Charlotte; James "Jimmy" Anthony Fischer and Denease Mitchell; Ignatius "Nash" Allen Fischer and wife Tammy all of Savannah; her god daughter, Jennifer McFarlin of Savannah; five grandchildren, Crystal Clifton, Joseph Fischer, Lacey Fischer, Erin Fischer, and Cameron Fischer; seven great-grandchildren; and her nieces, nephews, and great-niece.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday morning, February 26, 2025 at St. Peter's the Apostle Catholic Parish (7020 Concord Road, Savannah, GA 31410) beginning at 10:00 until just prior to the service. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 at St. Peter's the Apostle Catholic Parish with Father Michael Kavanaugh officiating.
