Carole was the daughter of La Rue H. Woods and the late James L. Woods Sr., sister of James L. Woods Jr. and the late Michael A. Woods of Savannah, Georgia.
She was born in Paterson New Jersey and raised in Savannah Georgia. After St. Vincent's Academy she went off to England, on the Queen Mary accompanied by Marion Smith, to study nursing; where her forthright manner, and good sense of humor, made a lasting impression on her colleagues and friends: Jean, Monique, Margaret, Avril, Toni and Gail. Her travels took her to Rome-Italy where she married and had her son, Cris. She relocated to New York City, where she raised her son, exploring the metropolis with him and his friends in tow, somehow always including a bit of serendipity.
She felt equally at home on a fishing boat or at high tea-and could chat with a fellow subway rider or an ambassador with equal ease-she had the gift of the gab, in several languages. Many that sought her counsel and a good meal were the better for it and remained friends in spirit if not proximity---she cherished her longstanding friendship with Zai, Lewis and Lynda.
Independent to the end she remained true to her first love--- books: her constant companion, her solace..... She did it her way.
She is survived by her: mother La Rue H. Woods; brother Jimmy and his wife Terri Woods; her son Cris and his wife Dulce Subrizi of San Francisco, California; and nephews Jim, Andrew, David and niece Katherine of Savannah, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Humane Society of the United States. A memorial service will be held at later date.
