Carl R. Whorley, age 76, passed away on Monday January 7th, 2013 at Heritage Healthcare of Savannah.
Born on April 30, 1936 in Glen Alum, West Virginia, graduated high school in Lincoln Park, Michigan and was a resident of Savannah for 40 years. He was an independent sales agent in the insurance industry for 33 years before retiring and running his own lawn care business for 12 years. Carl was very outgoing and never met a stranger. Most of the time he was the life of the party and was well known everywhere he went. Carl loved children and enjoyed spending more of his time with them than with adults. He was a little baseball coach for several years with the Southside Raiders "Cougars".
Carl accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior on October 4th, 1992.He was baptised and joined Savannah Christian Church, serving as an usher for several years at the Henderson Campus, and more recently attended the Savannah Christian Church East Campus. He was a well liked and active participant at The Ruth Byck Center of Senior Citizens, Inc. for 4 months.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Delcia & Chester Doering; siblings, Betty Maratta, Billie Crevier, Jackie Powers, Linda Galway, Thomas Worley, and Charles Bond Whorley. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Carol M Whorley; children, Carl R. Whorley, II (Christina), Michael Whorley (Rebecca), James Meyers, Scott Whorley (April), Cindy Hodge, and Kim Goleash (Kris); grandchildren, Alyssa, Cody, Hunter, Colton, Nathan, Jordan, Melissa, Mitchell, Austin, Alexandria, Kari (Gray), Cayla, Donald, Derek, Keli (Wesly), Camden, and Kyle; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Wyatt, Logan, Adalynn, and Layton.
