He was a life member of the Tybee Lite Shrine Club as well as a life member of the American Legion Post 135. He was also a Tennessee Squire. He was an active member of the Higher Ground Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

He umpired Little League, Pony League, High School, American Legion Baseball, and Softball leagues for over 30 years. He enjoyed fishing and traveling, visiting all 50 states, Europe, Russia behind the Iron Curtain, the Eastern and Western Caribbean, Mexico, Bermuda, Australia, New Zealand, and Panama.

He thought the world of his family. Everyone knew him as “Granddaddy”. He is survived by his wife, Sequel Viola Hendricks, whom he was married to for over 73 years, as well as his two sons: Carl L. Hendricks II, Garry L. Hendricks, and wife Cindy; two grandchildren: Courtland L.
