C. Gene Ellzey

Gene Ellzey, age 88 and lifelong native of Savannah, passed away on June 10, 2016 at Memorial University Medical Center.
Gene was born on November 12, 1927 to the late Craston and Lessie Flythe Ellzey. Gene retired from the accounting department of Union Camp after 42 years of employment. He was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church where he served as church treasurer for many years, was a member of the United Methodist Men, sang in the choir, and was active in the Faithful Sunday School class. Gene was also active with the Windsor Forest Senior Center where he served as song leader. He enjoyed wood working, genealogy, bowling, and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Bernice Anderson and Elise Cooper.
He is survived by his wife of over 52 years Lillian Ellzey, son Robert Ellzey, daughters and their husbands Jonnette and Cliff Carter, Caryn and David LeFevre, Mandy and Jay Stansell, and Laura and Terry Laseter, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, sister Betty Callaway, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 2-3pm on Monday, June 13 at Grace United Methodist Church.
Funeral Service will be held immediately following at 3pm with Rev. Steve Purnell officiating.
Remembrances may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 6412 Waters Ave., Savannah, GA 31406.
