Byron Thomas, 58, of Savannah, Georgia, formerly of El Dorado, AR passed away on October 8, 2017, at St. Joseph's Hospital of Savannah after a short illness.
He was born James Byron Thomas on June 24, 1959, in El Dorado, AR to James Earl, Jr. and Delores K. Thomas. He was raised in the Parker's Chapel community and went to school there.
Byron was the father of two boys, Byron Dale and Terry James "TJ". He married his current wife, Denise Bradshaw Thomas, in 1988, and they moved to Savannah along with his stepson, Michael Dee Bradshaw. In Savannah, Byron welded for a while. Then, he owned and operated a leather shop, Thomas Leather, for 22 years. In his spare time, Byron attended Savannah Technical College and studied computer programming and accounting. He also, was a firefighter with the Savannah Southside Fire Department District 7. He retired from firefighting after 10 years at the rank of Assistant Chief. Some of his hobbies were glass blowing, construction and gardening.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his grandson, Zachary Thomas, and a niece, Heather Birkeland Price.
He is survived by his wife, Denise Bradshaw Thomas; a stepson, Michael Dee Bradshaw; his son, Byron Dale Thomas and his wife, Lisa, and daughter, Katie, of Lewisville, AR; his son, Terry James "TJ" Thomas and his wife, Donna of Lewisville, AR; a granddaughter, Kyla Thomas, of Bethany, OK; a sister, Cindy Thomas Vaughan, and her husband, Danny, of Edmond, OK; an uncle, Bill Thomas and his wife, Debbie, of Van Buren, AR; and many nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. and the funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday October 14, 2017, at Young's Funeral Chapel with Thomas Hubbard officiating. A graveside service at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens will follow under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
