Burton (Burt) Morgan Sickelsmith, age 85, died Friday, December 2, 2011 at the Tuomey Healthcare System in Sumter South Carolina.
Graveside rites with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, December 5, 2011 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, with family members speaking. Interment will follow.
Burt was born August 6, 1926 in Buffalo New York to the late Joseph Samuel Sickelsmith and Ruth Pauline Coats Sickelsmith. He was retired from General Motors after 36 years of service as a welder in Tonawanda, New York. He was a veteran of United States Navy having served aboard the USS Bronstein during WWII, and was of the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beatrice Florence Cordaro Sickelsmith; a daughter, Linda Rose Sickelsmith and a brother, Frank Sickelsmith.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Lee Sickelsmith of Sumter, SC, daughters and sons-in-law: Susan De Rose and husband Donald of Lewiston, NY, Ellen Schmitt and husband Paul of Taberg, NY, step-children and their spouse: Richard Lee, Jr., Robert Lee both of Columbia SC, and Cindy Strickland and husband Paul of Dalzell, SC, 13 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to services at the cemetery.
