On January 18, 2017 around 11:45 pm my mother left this world to join my father and Our Father in the place that He has prepared for them and for all of us. She held on strong for almost year after the passing of her true love and best friend. Even in this last year of adversity and struggle she still ministered to many as she transitioned from her lifelong role of care giver to one of being cared for. She, as much as my father, touched the lives of her friends, family, church, and even strangers. She was blessed to be served well by so many caring people throughout her life and in her last years. She stood strong by my father's side in marriage for 45 years up to his last moment and I would say on through the 46th as she continued to be devoted to him even after his passing. She slipped from this world quietly and at peace and confident that she was a child of Christ forgiven by grace and guaranteed her salvation. In her final moments she was comforted by this scripture:
23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Psalm 23 King James Version (KJV)
Amen.
Thank you Mom.
