Dr. Boniface Kaumba Kawasha, age 64, of Savannah, Georgia passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Memorial University Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 12, 1957 in Luanshya, Zambia and was the son of the late Mupuchi Muke Soneka and the late Lucia Samwika Kusaloka.
Dr. Kawasha is survived by his wife Fridah; daughters, Muke and Cheelo; son, Like; grandson, Trenton; brothers, Faustin, Julius, Womba, Chrispin; sisters, Lucia, Pascalina, and Rosa; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Soneka; brothers, Harry and Mathias; and his sister, Jermaine.
A gifted academic with a passion for education and languages. These two topics were very dear to him and he always found a way to bring them into every conversation. In 2003 he joined Lane College in Jackson, TN, as Assistant Professor of French. In 2004 he joined Savannah State University in the same capacity. Through hard work, both research and teaching, Dr. Kawasha rose to the rank of Full Professor.
Dr. Kawasha was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and teacher and will be missed by many.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Baker McCullough - Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 2, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at Baker McCullough - Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
Interment will follow in Greenwich Cemetery.
