It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bobby Dean Dixon. Born July 16th 1932, to Nancy Grace Scott Dixon and Alva Lee Dixon of Metter, GA. He went home to be with the Lord on March 20th 2025 after a brief illness.
Bobby was most affectionately known as Papa, by those he loved most. He will forever be remembered for his loving kindness, generosity, and his love for the Lord. Throughout his life, he was an avid Bulldog fan, gardener and furniture maker. He also enjoyed making wooden toys for his grandchildren and neighbors.
As a young man, he joined the Army, serving two years and proceeded to serve in the National Guard for 29 years. He simultaneously worked at Union Camp as a Machinist, then retired after 40 years. He was a long time member of South Gardens Baptist Church, holding several leadership roles.
Bobby was predeceased by his parents, sister, Margie Ellington (James), daughters, Vickie Lee Dixon Clark, Brenda Joyce Orth, and son, Bobby Glenn Dixon.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Shirley J. Dixon, sister, Alva L. Allifi (Antonio), sons, Michael Dean Dixon and William Felix Dixon, daughters, Deborah Y. Shelley (David), Dee E. Messenger, Barbara L. Shuman (Ricky), and Tracey Woods who was his long time caretaker.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, March 25, 2025 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home (7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.) from 5:00 until 7:00. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday afternoon, March 26, 2025 in the chapel of Baker McCullough Funeral Home at 1:00. Entombment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
