Billy Grover Wilson of Statesboro, born September 29th, 1944 died peacefully surrounded by family on February 20th 2018 in Savannah, Ga at the age of 73.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Grover W. Wilson and Lola Mae "Flossie" McClendon Wilson Bazemore, his sister, Dorothy Wilson Andrist, his nephews, James "bubba" L. Wilson and Rick Andrist, his niece Mary D. Hildreth and his great grandson Ganaan Jax Smith
Billy is survived by the mother of his children, Diane Wilson. Children, April Wilson and Stephen Wilson (Heather); Sister, Shirley Hildreth (Michael), Brother- in-law, Kenneth Andrist (Dorothy); Grandchildren, Caleb, Peyton, Jayden, Michael, Colton, Abigail; Great grandchildren, Paisley and Drake; and several nieces and nephews.
Billy was an accomplished Master Cosmetologist and licensed school instructor within the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology. He was a generous, witty, and dedicated individual who loved ancestry research and who was passionate about both his family and students. He was an advent advocate for continuing education before it became mandatory with the State Board for licensed hair dressers. He owned 'Billy Wilson's University of Cosmetology' for many years, in addition to teaching at Savannah Technical College and Ogeechee Technical College. He was also the color educator for Nexus across the state of Georgia and the president of the Savannah Hairdressers association for several terms. Throughout his career, he touched thousands of lives and was a very loved son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
A viewing is scheduled from 5-8pm on Friday, February 23rd and the funeral is scheduled from 2-4pm on Saturday, February 24th both at the Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel on Hodgson Memorial Drive. Rev. Julie Stanley-Mack will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend to celebrate the life of Billy Wilson. Please feel free to come as you are.
