Betty Evelyn English Richards, aged 89, passed away June 18th, 2022 at Spanish Oaks Retreat.
Betty was born February 7, 1933 to the late William Franklin English and the late Evelyn Groover English. She was a lifelong resident of Savannah and attended Savannah High School. She was very creative and had many hobbies including horse barrel racing, for which she earned many show ribbons. In addition, she was an avid golfer, winning many golf tournament trophies throughout her life. She was also an artist, an accomplished seamstress, a great cook, and she loved boating, shrimping, and crabbing from her dock. As a member of Isle of Hope United Methodist Church, Betty was very involved with "Day on the Island." Betty also worked for years with the Emmaus Walk and received recognition for her work for the Emmaus House. She will be remembered for her work for Bethesda Academy and the Bethesda Alumni.In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her sons, Steven W. Jackson and Gary A. Jackson; and her brother, Robert (Bob) Harrison English.
Betty is survived by her husband, V. Glaen Richards, Sr.; step-daughter, Leonella R. Vaquer; step-son, V. Glaen Richards, Jr. (Mary), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive Savannah, GA 31406.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive Savannah, GA 31406.
