Betty Jean Mcginnis

Betty Jean McGinnis, age 94, of Brunswick passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023.

Mrs. McGinnis was born on July 29, 1929, in Jenkins County, GA to the late Russell A. Kent and the late Sussie Johnson Kent and was one of eleven brothers and sisters. After graduating from Millen (Jenkins County) high school she moved to Atlanta where she met her future husband, Leroy McGinnis. They married in Rockdale County near Atlanta in October 1947 and remained in Atlanta until moving to Savannah in the summer of 1952. She was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church for over 60 years. Betty was a career long bookkeeper and business assistant for various businesses in Savannah.

She is survived by her brother Johnson Kent of Texas, her granddaughter Ellen Mossman of Belleville Illinois, her granddaughters Betty McGinnis and Pamela McGinnis of Brunswick Georgia, her cousin Pearl Beaupre of Savannah Georgia, her daughter-in-law Nina McGinnis of Brunswick Georgia, her son-in-law Lake Holt III of Warner Robins Georgia, and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Leroy McGinnis, her daughter Barbara Holt, her son Roy McGinnis, and nine of her brothers and sisters.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel (7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive Savannah, GA 31406).

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens (315 Greenwich Road Savannah, GA 31404).

Remembrances may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church (7375 Hodgson Memorial Drive Savannah, GA 31406).
