Betty Futch Lucken, 101, of Wilmington Island, Ga., died Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Buckingham South where she was a resident over the past 3 years.
Betty's life covered the last century, having been born NOVEMBER 11TH,1915 in Tattnall County, Georgia to Allie Milton Futch and William G. Futch. Known for her comical ways and quick humor, her early years, were spent in rural Georgia but at the age of 16 she moved to Savannah, Georgia where she later met and married NICK D. LUCKEN. They shared 50 years together prior to his death. Their marriage was blessed with one daughter, ELSIE JEAN LUCKEN EVANS.
The family was connected with retail grocery for a number of years. Betty owned and operated Ridgewood Market in Savannah for 7 years; and Nick opened the L & A Super Market in Port Wentworth, Georgia. They resided in Garden City, Georgia and had a vacation residence on Colonel's Island, where she enjoyed having her siblings and their families visit. Following the death of her husband she made her home in Pooler, Georgia with her daughter and son in law, Charles Evans. Betty was of the Lutheran faith.
Betty, the sole remaining member of her family, was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son-in-law, her four sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by her only child, Elsie L. Evans, a grandson, Nicky Evans (Wendy) of Toccoa, Georgia; a granddaughter, Tracy E. Sauers (Joe), of Savannah, Georgia; Great Grandsons, Travis Evans (Natalie), Nicholas Evans (Clarissa), Joseph Sauers (Danyelle), Andrew Sauers (Brandi), and, Zachary Sauers, great granddaughter, Kelli Sauers (Al Henderson), great great granddaughter, Rylee Evans and Great Great Grandson, Carter Sauers, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Tuesday , February 21. 2017 from 10:30 to 11:30 A. M. at Baker-McCullough Funeral Home at 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive with funeral Service to follow at ll:30 A M in the Hubert C. Baker Chapel of Baker McCullough Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Heigelman, officiating.
Private Interment Services will be at Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, in Glennville, Ga, with Deacon Allison Ward, officiating.
The family wishes to thank all the wonderful caregivers and staff of Buckingham South for the loving care extended to Grandma Lucken. Also to Hospice Care of Georgia caregivers and staff for the compassion and care given.
