Betty Purvis Durrence

Betty Purvis Durrence, age 94, of Sunbury, Georgia passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023.

Betty was born in Glennville, Georgia to the late Milton Lee Purvis and the late Georgie Griffin Purvis. She was a loving and devoted daughter. A graduate of Glennville High School, Betty attended the University of Georgia to continue her formal education. In May of 1947, Betty married Juan Durrence and moved to Savannah, Georgia to begin their lives together and later start their family. Betty retired as the bookkeeper for Savannah Pediatrics in 1990. In retirement she enjoyed spending time with her family and caring for her husband, Juan. Betty’s passion was to serve and share her faith and love for her savior, Jesus Christ. She touched many lives through her example and Bible teaching.

Betty is predeceased by her parents, Milton Lee Purvis and Georgie Griffin Purvis; her husband, Terrell Juan Durrence; her brothers, Milton Eugene Purvis, Harry Lee Purvis and Jimmy H. Purvis; and sisters-in-law Opal Rushing Purvis and Vernice Todd Purvis.

Betty is survived by her son, Jan T. Durrence (Anne) Fleming Island FL; daughter, Georgette Durrence Goodman (Danny) Sunbury, GA; grandsons, Steven M. Durrence (Alicia) Pooler, GA and Jonathan D. Goodman (Lyndsey) Richmond Hill, GA; granddaughter, Andrea Goodman Weeks (Brett) Forest, VA; sister-in-law, Ann Purvis (Savannah, GA); sister-in-law, Linda Durrence and brother-in-law, Gary Durrence (Carrollton, GA); ten great-grand children; one great-great grand child, and many nieces and nephews.

Family will be receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2023 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406.

A funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Richmond Hill, Georgia on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Gene Purvis officiating the service. Interment will take place after the service at Glennville City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Gideons International.
