Betty Woodcock Davis went to be with the Lord on September 26, 2024. She was born in Glennville, GA, on December 4, 1929, to Rufus Dwight Woodcock and Nettie Hamm Woodcock. She was educated in the Glennville, GA, graduating from Glennville High School in 1946 and Draughn’s Business School in Savannah, GA, in 1947. On September 6, 1952, Betty married Darrow Jurell Davis and had a wonderful marriage of 67 years until his death in 2019.
Betty Davis worked several years at Savannah Coca-Cola Bottling Company. She left Coca- Cola upon the birth of her first child to be a full-time stay-at-home mom for their three children. Later she returned to the workforce working for the Savannah Chatham Board of Education until her retirement. In retirement, Betty and Jurell enjoyed their families, traveling and felt blessed for a wonderful life. Betty enjoyed cooking for family and friends along with working in her yard tending plants and flowers. Betty also enjoyed her 35 years at the St. Joseph’s/ Candler Hospital working in the hospital gift shop and information desk.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jurell; and her sister, Bobbie Kay Floyd. She is survived by: her children, Gary Jurell Davis (Connie), Marianne Davis Church (Richard), and Lynn Davis Kennedy (Frank); grandchildren, Richard Church, Michelle Church Knapp, Stephen Kennedy and Andrew Kennedy; great-grandchildren, Aidan Knapp, Ashlyn Knapp and Ryan Henry Wright; sister, Wynelle Ortega; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel (7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive Savannah, GA 31406).
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff and management of Azaleland Nursing Home for the care, compassion, and encouragement.
We would also like to thank Pastor David Laughner, along with the congregation at Chapel-By-The-Sea Baptist Church and friends for their acts of kindness and generosities during their mother’s final days.
