Betty Burke Taylor, 87, of Thunderbolt, passed away at home surrounded by her two daughters on January 10, 2018.
She was born on November 4, 1930 in Metter, GA to the late Rufus A. and Ruby Mae Lamb.
She worked for a short time for the Chatham County Tax Commissioner's Office and then worked for 20 years as the Deputy Clerk of the Superior Court. Upon retirement she was able to spend many hours working and maintaining her beautiful yard and flowers. Her time was also spent with her family, her sisters and she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren more than life itself. Betty was a member of Thunderbolt Baptist Church where, for years, she spent time being the church treasurer, Sunday school teacher and choir member. She is currently a member of First Baptist Church of the Islands. Betty has been a proud resident of Thunderbolt since 1956.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Emory Burke and their infant daughter, Jackie Gail Burke.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandra O'Connell Waters (Jim) of Savannah and Pamela Burke Hatchell (Danny) of Thomasville, GA; three grandchildren, Staci O'Connell Ravita, Danny Hatchell (Jenn) and Mindy Hatchell Pierce (Eugene); seven great-grandchildren, Victoria Ravita, Lauren Ravita, Grace Hatchell, Claire Mae Hatchell, Elsa Hatchell, Luke Pierce and Caroline Pierce; two sisters, Bobbie Lamb Saalmann of Mt. Dora, FL and Gail Lamb Prysock (David) of Jacksonville, FL; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She will be missed but her legacy, spirit and character will be present always...she loved us "to the Moon and Back."
The family would like to thank Elizabeth Maher and Pat McPhatter of Hospice Savannah for their care during Betty's illness.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 until 1:00pm, Monday at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah.
