Ben Harris Zeigler Sr., 91, of Savannah, GA., was called to his Heavenly Home on Monday, March 5, 2018. He volunteered and served his country during World War II. He was a pipe fitter and welder with Local 188. After retirement he and his wife Patricia were volunteers for over twenty years at Ft. Clinch State Park, Fernandina Beach, FL. Ben was a devout Christian, loving husband, father, and grandfather. He instilled in his family his love of nature, camping, fishing and gardening. He never met a stranger and always put others before himself. He was quite charming with an insatiable sense of humor.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Julian Richard and Virginia Brown Zeigler; brothers Jim, Walter, Luther, Warren, Carroll, Frank, and Joe; sisters, Louise, Ellen, Katherine and Margaret.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patricia Virginia Barrett Zeigler; sons Mark Barrett Zeigler and Ben Harris Zeigler, Jr. (Brooke Keane); daughter, Patrice Zeigler Flaugh, Ocala, FL; sister, Jean Lowery, Harrison, AK; grandchildren, Morgan Zeigler McCullough ,Virginia Catherine Isobel Zeigler, Bree Zeigler, and Bren Zeigler; great-grandchild, Cody Grotyohann.
The family will have a small private service. There will be a memorial service for friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to Friends of Fort Clinch Organization, 2601 Atlantic Ave. Fernandina Beach, FL 32034 for a memorial bench for Ben.
