Barbara Ann Manning Strickland, age 84, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023.
Barbara was born to the parents of Lorine Amanda Davis Manning and Daniel Dewy Manning in
Brunswick, Georgia October 4, 1938. In 1956, Barbara graduated from Savannah High School.
Barbara was such a hard worker, it is no surprise she met her loving husband of 61 years at
work. They were married in Ridgeland, South Carolina on June 9, 1961 and together had four
children. Barbara's strong will and determination helped her to achieve many goals she placed
for herself in life. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, home renovations, painting, playing the violin,
gardening, farming, cosmetology, and helping any way she was needed at church. She valued
her relationship with her grandmother and would spend the summers in Brunswick with her.
Later in life, she moved her grandmother into her home and became not only her caregiver, but
also caregiver to her mother-in-law. Barbara held so much love and generosity in her heart.
Barbara worked at Southern Marine; Bell Telephone Company; Bowie Jackson Tax Service;
Chatham County Special Education, as a school bus driver; she owned her own business for a
while, Ma & Me's Country Things; and even taught sewing classes at Moye’s Sewing Center. She
was also a member of Bible Baptist Church for 42 years.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Amanda Strickland; her grandson,
Wilson Ray Watson; and her sister, Betty Jean Acord.
Barbara is survived by her husband, James W. Strickland; son, Daniel W. Strickland (Teresa); her
daughters, Penny E. Strickland, Sondra Martin (Tracy); eight grandchildren, Shane Watson,
Matthew Watson, DJ Strickland, Dylan Strickland, Abby Strickland, Michael Martin, John Martin
and David Martin; four great-grandchildren; Kane Monthie, Kaleb Watson, Scarlet Strickland,
and Greysen Strickland.
