Barbara Jean Fields Carter, age 72, died Thursday, June 3, 2010 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 12:30 PM, Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Rev. Tom Nichols officiating. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Williams, Travis Williams, Connor Fields, Tyler Fields, J.T. Turner and David Connor.
Barbara was born on February 28, 1938, in Newbern, N.C. She was a LPN having retired from Moss Oaks Nursing Center in Pooler. She was a member of Springhill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Beatrice Heath Smith and step-father, Elmer L. Smith of Savannah, her first husband Willie Fields in 1965 and her second husband, Carol Daniel Carter in 1988.
Surviving family members include her son, Willie Lamar Fields and wife Shelly, daughters, Donna Nichols and husband Ron, Caryn Reeves and husband Jim all of Savannah son, Randy Carter and wife Dottie of Goose Creek, S.C., and son, Brian Carter of Savannah. Also surviving are six grandsons and one granddaughter, two brothers, Dennis Smith of Richmond Hill, and Mike Smith of Savannah, two sisters, Carolyn Alcock of Kinston, North Carolina and Brenda McBrayer of Thomson, Georgia
