Arthur Vernon Thompson, Jr.

November 6, 1944 — April 25, 2024

Arthur V. Thompson, passed away at home Thursday, April 25, 2024.He was in the company of his loving wife of 42 years, Lynn and his son, Ryan.

"Butch” as he was known to his family and friends was born in Dublin, Georgia. Those who grew up with Butch from youth, knew of his rough childhood. He was determined, he was a fighter, he was not a quitter, he was a hard worker, he was smart and he was determined to have a better life.

After graduating from high school, Butch served in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War. He then went on to work at John B. Rourke as a salesman. Later he began his career with Diamond Construction Co. and later moved to Savannah Electric. He was an exemplary worker. But all the while, he was nurturing his passions for the beautiful and unusual rarities to be found in life. He liked fashion, gorgeous women, a great joke and an even better laugh, really good-looking hair and the finest of local gossip. A few more goodies – and back to the serious, he loved boating, he enjoyed all types of entertainment, he particularly took an interest in clocks and watches as a hobby. He joined the National Clock and Watch Association and as ‘this’ hobby slowly began to grow into a successful business, he was able to retire early from Savannah Electric Co.

It was at this point, Butch married his most fierce and favorite passion, not to mention his best friend, “Lynn”. Together they moved the business to the next step of buying and selling high grade watches, diamonds, antique jewelry and collectibles. Travelling the shows and having a ball, they enjoyed their life as a couple. Later buying and renovating real estate here at home, they decided to expand their family. And at “50” Butch had a brand new “Center of their World” Ryan. At the hospital it was noted – Butch said – “Oh my God – I am 50 years old – what am I supposed to do?” – and Butch was glowing.

I’ll tell you what he did…

Butch gave his ‘all’ to his family. He provided his son and wife with a beautiful life and more happy memories than can be recounted in one evening. Butch and his wife have spent all their time together working to build a better life. After 42 years they could still sit for hours on end talking – they enjoyed their time with one another. They were best friends

Butch will always be in their hearts; he will always be in our hearts.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur V. Thompson Sr., and Maude Lila Thompson Walker; his brother, Charles Ivy Thompson; his sister in-law, Jeanne Thompson; his father in-law, Nunizo V. DiCola; and his fur baby, Sage.
