Arthur Lee Sams, 84, of Savannah, GA, passed away on February 13, 2025, peacefully in his sleep.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday February 22,2025 and at Abundant Life V Business and Empowerment Center. Apostle Olasoji Founder and Overseer of Covenant by Design Christian Fellowship will be officiating. Visitation will be held at 10:00am to 11:00 am Saturday February 22,2025 Ab.LV. repast will follow the funeral immediately after service in church social all. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Baker McCullough Funeral Home.
Arthur was born in Pinpoint, GA to late Charles Senior and Lee Edna Sams on September 16,1940. He attended Savannah Chatham County public school system and attended Savannah State College for 2 years. He joined the Navy and served for 28 years. His rank when he left the Navy was Petty Officer Second Class. He owned and operated his own Plumbing Business as a trained and certified plumber.
Deacon Sams enjoyed talking about his family, home in Pinpoint, GA, and his church. He hosted a wealth of historical knowledge about his community, his country, and his people. He faced everyday with a smile and when ask how he was doing he would respond,” I’m Fantastic, the Good Lord woke me up another day. “He was truly a treasured gift to all those who had the pleasure of knowing him, even if it was just for a day.
Arthur was married to the love of his life the late Deloris Denise Sams on December 6,1965; They gave birth to a beautiful baby girl November 1,1967 and were married 15 years. Then after being widowed for 2 years Deacon Sams found love again and married the late Sylvia Jean Sams May 22,1982. They raised a family of 3 boys, and 5 girls.
Arthur was introduced to God at a early age and taught Sunday School at Sweet Field of Eden Baptist Church in Pin Point Georgia. November 21,2020, he became an ordained deacon at Ab. L V Empowerment Center.
Deacon Arthur Sams retired from the Navy with a honorable discharge along with receiving Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, as well as having served two tours in Vietnam.
Arthur is survived by his loving and devoted children Apostle Kimberly McGert(Savannah, Ga) Banica Harris- Sams(Hayward, CA) Danica Sams(Oakland, Ca) Adriena Heyward(Modesto CA),Vikki Lee(Edison)(Stockton CA), Sheri Lowe(Modesto, CA), Doug Lowe(Modesto ,CA), Derek Sams(San Leandro, CA),James Sams( Pinpoint, GA) , two Brothers Charles Sams Jr.(Linda)(Atlanta, GA) Larry Sams(Pamela)(Savannah, GA) one sister in law Amanda Hill( Fairfield California), a total of 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews, and cousin, primary care giver Demetress Nixion, and assistant care givers Missionary Sarah Orr, Minister Marylin Water, Temya Sherrod, Portia Jones, Demitrius McGruder, Jackson Alvin, and Mary Lockett.
Arthur is preceded in death by his Parents Charles Sams Sr. Lee Edna Sams, Brother Carlton Sams and wives Delores Sams and Sylvia Sams.
