Anna Marie Weibel, born Anna Marie Shaffer, passed away on October 7 th , 2022 of
natural causes and is survived by her three sons: Craig, Clay, and Clint. Craig lives in
Canton, Georgia with Marla. Clay lives with his wife Susan in Atlanta, Georgia, as do
their three children: Jason, Drew, and Anna. She has two great grandchildren, Lukas
and Kasper. Clint lives in Savannah, Georgia, Anna’s home for 46 years.
Daughter to Marlin and Marie Shaffer, Anna grew up in Louisville, Kentucky with her
brothers Marlin “Junie” and Ray. Her parents raised her for a short time before she
moved in with loving guardians Aunt Pearl and Uncle Peck. Always a smart girl, Anna
skipped two grades in high school and went to the University of Louisville for a short
time before she met and married Carl Weibel, an Army Air Corp WWII Veteran, in 1950.
They raised their three sons in Louisville for a time before moving to Decatur, Stone
Mountain, and finally Savannah, Georgia.
Anna worked for Chris Motors in Decatur, Standard Distributing in Savannah, and
ReMax Realty on Wilmington Island. An avid shopper, she and her daughter-in-law
Susan would hit the sales on a regular basis: her favorite being the Rich’s Warehouse
Sale! We just looked for the blonde hair bobbing around the stores! Anna also loved to
read and was seldom seen without a book in reach. Her favorite was mysteries. She had
a great sense of humor and kept people laughing with her jokes and less-than-subtle
commentary! In Savannah, she was an active member of the Red Hat Ladies for a time
as well as an active participant at her church on Wilmington Island. She and Carl would
help with fundraisers and events until his death in 1998. Later in life, Anna fell in love
with traveling. Ireland was her favorite and she talked about it often. She loved the
beach and her grandchildren grew up spending multiple Savannah beach vacations with
her every year.
For the past year, she has lived at Azalealand Nursing Home in Savannah. They have
been like family to her and they will miss her. She loved her husband, who was her best
friend, her sons, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren with all her heart. She
and her son Clint lived together his whole life and he will surely miss her. She will be
missed by all of us!
