Allan Ray Black, age 83, of Savannah passed away Saturday, December 10, 2022.
Mr. Black was born in 1938 in Madison, WI, the son of the late Harvey and Lilla Black. He spent his childhood and teenage years in Madison as well. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where he earned a degree in civil engineering. He came to Savannah working with Hussey, Gay, and Bell, and then later became Assistant County Engineer, where he worked for 20 years, retiring in 2007. He was particularly proud of his work on the Truman Parkway. Allan was a lifelong sports fan, playing basketball when he was younger as well as tennis and golf. He was also an avid college sports fan, especially the University of Wisconsin. During retirement he enjoyed gardening and reading in addition to watching sports and meeting with friends for dinner.
Mr. Black was preceded in death by his former wife, Pamela Black. He is survived by his sons, Paul Black and Michael Black (Susana); brother, David Black; and grandchildren, Elliot Black, Gabriel Black, and Rubens Brandao.
The family will be receiving friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406. A private family graveside service will also be held.
