Alice Anne Carpenter

April 20, 1967 — October 27, 2022

Alice Anne Carpenter, age 55, passed away on Thursday October 27, 2022 and went home to Heaven.

Alice was born on April 20, 1967 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Rev. and Mrs. John and Ruth Putney. The youngest of six children, Alice was the baby of her family. After spending her childhood growing up in Puerto Rico she moved to Houghton, NY to attend college. After graduating in 1989 with a degree in English, Alice pursued her Master’s in Bilingual Education. Also in 1989 she met the love of her life, Eric. Alice and Eric married in 1991 and went on to have three children, Caroline, Mary, and Bobby. In 2022 prior to her death, Alice and Eric celebrated 31 years of marriage.
Alice had a heart for teaching. Her teaching career spanned more than three decades, during which time she taught both English and Spanish to high school and college dual enrollment students. Most recently she was employed by Bethesda Academy as an English teacher. Alice also homeschooled her children for fifteen years, during which time she taught other homeschool students at a local homeschool co-op, in subjects ranging from Biology to British Literature. Alice loved music and she also taught in-home piano lessons for nearly 20 years.

In 2020 Alice was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. After undergoing a rigorous treatment regimen, she finished treatment in April of 2021. However, the cancer recurred in early 2022. Alice was a warrior, battling the cancer to the very end, at which time she was ready to go home to Heaven and meet her Savior. Her faith never wavered and she was steadfast in her belief in Christ.

Alice was predeceased by her grandparents and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband, Eric, her children, Caroline Farrar (Shane), Mary Carpenter, and Bobby Carpenter, and her grandchildren, Lisa, Zoey, and Ian Farrar. Other survivors include her parents, John and Ruth Putney, in-laws, Victor and Charlotte Carpenter, siblings, Ruth Blackman (David), Peter Putney (Magda), David Putney (Audrey), Mary Johnson (Tony), Jonathan Putney (Yongsuk), and Esther Ball (Nate). She is also survived by several aunts and uncles, many cousins, 16 nieces and nephews, and many close friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
