Alexander Hamilton Hodges

Alexander Hamilton “Bubber” Hodges, age 92, of Savannah passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Hodges was born on June 13, 1931, in Savannah, Georgia, to Edward Pottle Hodges and Carrie Beard Hodges.

He was a 1950 graduate of Savannah High School, and continued his education by means of a Baseball/Basketball scholarship to Southern Technical Institute. After graduation he worked at Par Gas in Catonsville, Md., until he was drafted by the United States Army. When he finished his service, he returned to Par Gas in Waldorf, Md., where he worked until he moved back to Savannah in 1954. He worked at Georgia Plumbing and Supply until he was employed at the Savannah Sugar Refinery in 1955 from which he retired as Plant Manager in 1993. He was an avid golfer and won numerous tournaments and shot eleven holes- in- one.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Pottle Hodges and Carrie Beard Hodges; brothers, George Hodges, and James Hodges (Ann Hodges); sisters, Dorothy Hodges, Anne Hodges and Fredricka “Bootsie” Tilton (Joseph Tilton); his son, Billy Hodges and his daughter, Holly Keane, and several nephews.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Alice F. Hodges, his high school sweetheart, and his wife of 72 years; his daughters, Kelly Tidwell and Sally Hodges; his son, Scotty Hodges (Kym Hodges); grandchildren, Brooke Zeigler (Ben Zeigler), Kory and Joey Tidwell, and Kyle Hodges; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Colin,and Paige Tidwelll, and Bren and Bree Zeigler; several nieces and nephews; a sister-n-law Sis Richards (Jimmy Richards); and a few dear friends that he would visit every day before heading over to sit on the front porch with his daughter Holly.

The family will be receiving family and friends from 5:00 p.m. until the time of his Celebration of Life service at 6:00 p.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406.
